Nice bike! Very tasteful. Very much my style. Moto Guzzi is one of the few bikes I have not owned. It's on my list. I lost track of my bike count at 70 bikes many years ago, and now estimate I have purchased, modified, insured, licensed and ridden well over 200 motorcycles. Owning as many as 15 at a time for decades, all for hobby, not business. Most very cheap and well used. Only 8 new ones in 47 years.

I now have 1.7 bikes and am itching for another. I'm looking.

Obviously I love all bikes, powered or not, 2 or 3 wheels, street or dirt.

When my health seriously deteriorated 3 years ago, I sold off 9 bikes and decided to take up the sedentary sport of studio LF. That's how I got here. I had vertigo for 10 years also. Makes riding very scary, I still have problems with bridges. Requires intense concentration.

But, miraculously, I lost 50 lbs, got much healthier and have become a rider once more. I started my second motorcycle life with a Honda 50 scooter and have been getting bigger bikes as I regain ability. I carried crutches on the back.

Friday I plan to ride a heavily modified CRF230M to Road America AHRMA vintages races and camp. I am mostly worried about getting up off the ground in the morning. It will be 400 miles total on a small bike carrying camping gear. I am stoked. I just put the new pup tent up in the back room.

I'll take pics at Road America with my Nikon P7000, which takes better pics than most cameras I own... 18-200mm VR zoom will come in handy, with movies!

Been going to RA since I was 16, in 1967. Best kept secret in racing.

Welcome back to riding Randy. Along with photography, it's long been one of my great passions. I can't claim 200 bikes, but I've definitely owned more motorcycles and scooters than cars, starting with a Vespa when I was 17. Have a great time at the races, and bring back some pictures to share!

Yeah, bike thread! After about 15 years of not having one, giving them up when my kids were young, I just got this. 1968 Honda CB450 Super Sport, very clean, local seller. I got the carbs and valves adjusted, dusted off the old helmet, and am taking evening rides. You know, when it's below 105 here in Arizona!

I know the area well and remember your A frame. We started going there at age 16, in 1967. It was insane then and much more relaxed. Then, at end of the race, kegs were opened on the finish line and we kids drank free beer. I illegally drove the 4 mile track a few laps in the rain in a poor running 1961 Bug and kept spinning out to cheers from the spectators. I was escorted off and NOT arrested. These days you go directly to jail. I have missed only 4 years out of 47 years.

Bike weekends are best with far less frat boy drinkers. Easy to spot a drunk biker, as he fell down. Sometimes...

Used for Live art at Chicago's 1998 Around the Coyote Art Fair. I slay my Dragon 'PUKE' and officially end my 18 years of Dragon creation. I am making a small movie of my Dragon art history. This was not my finest hour!

Oh right, the summit. Well unfortunately, I didn't get a very good picture up there, maybe because I was traumatized by climbing that last part. I did hand my half-broken phone to someone so they could make my picture. If you mean the working museum, Ukrainian Village, it's in Saskatchewan's neighbouring province, Alberta...

According to the weather report, the heat index today was over 100 degrees. I took a hike, just a couple of miles, and I was simply drenched in sweat. Oh, and I almost got sucked into some "quickmud." I heard the air/water pocket go and was suddenly sinking in mud. Got out of it quickly though. Never had that happen before but the whole area I was hiking in was underwater for several months due to flooding so I guess that's why.

Here are a couple frames. Taken with a Pentax 6x7 and an SMC 55mm f/4. Testing developers with FP4+...I shot this at 160 and developed in Acufine for 4:30:

Was out for a morning walk today, and while crossing through an intersection, found this rather interesting combination of intersecting lines :)

This was shot on my cell phone as that's all I had with me, but I applied a bit of "tweaking" to get it back to what I saw with my eyes, since I've set the camera's settings to capture things a bit flat contrast-wise. I'm planning to return and hopefully shoot it on a more decent camera(maybe the GX680, I don't foresee LF being a good idea in the middle of a right hand lane ;)!)

A scene from the Fremont Solstice Parade. The girls on the left and right had boxes for bras. It looks like that guy is copping a feel. At the start of this parade a lot of people ride bicycles around naked. Some with a lot of body paint, some with a modest amount and some with none.

I calibrated the focus on my M9. Not just the infinity but I had to mess with the closer focusing cam. A little disappointing as this camera was supposedly just serviced before I bought it.
Anyway, finally got it nice and tidy (that's one big advantage to digital - easy testing of focus!). Here's one of the test shots. Taken with a Nikon 8.5cm f/2 at f/2.5 and with a little flash on the camera pointed towards the wall:

http://www.oceanstarproductions.com/photosharing/edit-1006320s.jpg

I guess I probably shouldn't have cut off her hand on the bottom right. Oops. If there's one thing I don't like about the Leica it's the framelines. Much less precise than the Nikon rangefinders I'm used to, plus the automatic selection doesn't work with the adapted lenses I'm using unless I constantly change the screwmount adapter (and using the preview lever is a pain sometimes depending on the lens/grip). I guess that's what I get for shooting a Leica without actually using Leitz glass, or M-mount glass at all.

Eh, but the announcement is actually, "At 72 years old it has become very difficult for me to carry my large format camera gear any distance. That 60 pound backpack hurts my back if I walk to far."

He's been carrying 60 pounds of gear all this time!! Of course he's going for something smaller.

BTW, which is the Sony A TR? Did he mean the Sony Alpha 7R?

Corran
27-Jun-2014, 22:39

Personally, as someone who lives close by, I'd probably volunteer to carry some of that for him, to learn a bit from him.

Looks like he cannot actually see the tiny screen. Somebody needs to set him up with the LARGE FORMAT HDMI video type monitor for his tiny camera, so he can see what he is getting. A 5x7 4K monitor mounted to his camera RIG would go far for him and anyone. He's using a tripod, just add a decent viewing screen.

I can't wait for his darkroom sale...

Scott; those tools look great captured!

My girls have borrowed my studio area to setup an American Girl summer camp. Good thing they play with them, because the dolls are too expensive to sit on a shelf. They know my backdrop selection and wanted the woods scene to make their camp more authentic. (Ignore the fall scene for a summer camp). The woods backdrop is part of a backdrop kit I bought cheap from the former company that did school portraits in my area when I was a little kid. I can probably find a photo somewhere with me or my wife leaning against a fake fence with these woods, or the laser background, or the gray/white brushed background that would be lit with gel colored lights. Glad to let them be creative.

I'm doing what I can to forge ahead and pull my head out of creative purgatory, including shooting more roll film than usual. But I find it frustrating because I had gotten used to exposing a sheet or two each day and having them processed and scanned within hours. Now it can take me weeks to finish a roll and see the results. (There's a first world problem for you!)

I can shoot a half roll or a full roll (or more) on an outing with my TLR, but I only develop 3 rolls at a time in the darkroom to save time spent developing film. So that can take weeks to get developed film by working it batches of three. Worst is when I have two rolls waiting for processing, then I go shoot two rolls, I get some results immediately, but end up waiting a week or two for the remainder. I don't have a problem with motivation, but of course some art history reading (in moderation) can be inspiring.

When shooting 120 film, I have an SS tank for a single roll and also an SS tank for two rolls. I can't handle more than two rolls at once. I have an old Unicolor roll film drum, but the o-ring gasket on the plunger part has crumbled, so I can't use it any more. :( Haven't been able to get a replacement, I may just find a large diameter o-ring and some tape or a foam core to make it seal again.

Say guys. Does anyone have a Mamiya 7, 43mm viewfinder?

My viewfinder for the 43mm lens on my M7II had the frame lines inside come loose and is rattling around. I took it to a local camera repair shop to get it re-bonded in place but there is a small problem.

The repair shop does not have a manual for this camera and asked which way the frame lines are oriented. He says it is not symmetrical. My question is could someone post a picture looking through the viewfinder or draw a sketch and post it?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Tuco,
If you don't find anything here, I'd suggest calling MAC Group in New York; they are a Mamiya/Toyo service centre.
They've been very good about e-mailing me parts diagrams and such, and might have what you need.
Their phone number is (914) 784-4480; good luck!

On flickr I found a picture someone took looking through the viewfinder. It really can go either way but a few lines are different on one end is all. I sent that link to the repair shop. I think I should be good-to-go. Thanks.

Ah, you and Scott know your cacti! This one is the infamous "jumping" cholla. You get much closer than this, and you risk a very painful ball of spines getting stuck on you. The lightest touch, and they are in you, they are barbed, and don't come out easily. Nice to look at, but the worst for sticking you.

You can say that again! At eleven years old she went after a FAMILY of racoons in the back yard without a second thought. I ended up in the ER because I got bloodied trying to pull them apart, but Abby didn't have a scratch on her. I'm convinced she was pissed that I broke up the fight and deprived her of a kill. For tomorrow's shoot.... 1933 Leica II with Nickel trim and Elmar lens. Shoots great. 69557

Travelling through the old posts... Certainly it's too late to reply now - and more so as the original poster is not on this forum any more (which is a pity IMO) - but still I can't resist the fun of it...

Sorry this is not a Leica at all. It's a FED (or a Zorki), and the lens is not an Elmar either but an Industar (most probably an Industar-22 but may also turn out to be an Industar-10 or an Industar-50). In fact, it's not even an Elmar clone; it's a copy of a Zeiss Tessar. And both the camera and the lens were relabeled with the Leica inscriptions a couple of decades or just years ago. Making fakes like this used to be a small industry in itself in Russia, in the Ukraine and probably in other post-USSR countries, too. Some of those engravers may still be active today. Back in the 1990s the German 'Fotomagazin' even had a big publication carefully illustrating all the remaining differences between the 'newly born' Leicas and the real ones.

and I've been having trouble with light leaks with that old 1933 Leica.... can't figure it out.

Yes that's pretty logical. The reason is, those fakes were not for taking pictures. They were just for display. For shooting, you bought a real Leica for its quality or a real Zorki for its low price. The fakes were about 5 to 10 times cheaper then the Leica and about 10 times more expensive then the Zorki.... so who would ever buy those to stuff film in?

And the relabeling guys were absolutely legal and perfectly honest btw. They never pretended their Leicas were real; they called those Leica copies. And if a Moscow fake-seller saw his buyer was not an ambitious would-be-collector but a naive photographer, the seller would tell him the whole story and direct the guy to a place that had a real old Leica for sale.

Looks like not all the resellers in other parts of the world are up to those business standards nowadays....

Do you really mean this coated lens is of 1933?
Are you sure there were any Elmars of the era that instead of the "f=5cm" mark had the "F=50mm" on them - just like the Industars of the 1950s?
Etc., etc....

Well, actually, I didn't mean trying to explain Leicas (which I'm not an expert on) nor even Zorkis. I believe those who really care (and sorry I don't) can dig up that old German publication somehow. There were way more of the little differences between the real and the modern fake Leicas than I actually remember btw.

Well, since YOU brought it up, you must care quite a bit! You started it with a post commenting on a 3 year old post by a former member, saying it was fake. It's not.

The engraving nor the coating are where you should be looking to tell this is a real Elmar. (I already said the camera body was real, but you want to talk about the lens now). Both markings and coatings changed over time, are easy to do after the lens was made. Coatings were commonly added. The tab for the aperture is what shows this is a real Leitz lens. I can see other physical indicators verifying the lens and camera, but like you say, you don't care.

Funny enough, my classmate's grand dad owned a FED with exactly the same tab for the aperture on its Industar since the mid 1930s....

BTW are you also sure that it is not 2 but 3 yeas that have already passed since 2012? :)
Not that I really care but as wise psychologists use to say, if you are happy to think so, please do...

Sorry I'm leaving the topic.

I remember during my back packing days in the mid 90's, I said to my now wife, that all the pictures we had to take using other peoples camera's (so they could be in them) it would make an excellent coffee table book. Based on the current day and age, I would imagine that this is exactly how that book would look now!

BTW, I checked out your Flickr stream. I really enjoyed your photos!

Yes, I've started to branch into pornography. If you look closely, you can see that this picture is rated XXX (har har).

That's a really pleasing composition h2oman, very elegant and balanced, and with a nice sense of movement. I like it! I also like the trees and puffy clouds photo you posted over in the trees thread by the way. Good stuff.

Chairs with Lamp and Birds, Condominium Landing, Lake Oswego

These chairs are located in the condo where my in-laws live, and every time I pass them while going up or down the stairs, I feel a little pang of sadness. I'd be willing to bet that no one has stopped to sit in them, ever.

Thanks Jim. I can't really take credit for the texture or the lighting, but I appreciate your kind words nevertheless. :)

I think I would have cropped the ceiling out.

Nah man, that ceiling is essential! See, the way I look at it, the diagonal line at upper right echoes the diagonal of the railing at lower left. Plus, the ceiling gives the picture the three dimensional, diorama effect I was after. So you're just plain wrong BetterSense. Wrong, wrong, wrong! :) Seriously, thanks for the input.
