Rod or Brush For ULF?

I've used rod coating successfully for Pt/Pd prints up to 7x17 / 11x14 in size. Will the rod work well for 14x17? (I usually use COT 320/Platine) A knowledgeable friend of mine (who, however has crossed to the d-side) says brush coating will be better. For those of you who make 14x17/16x20/12x20/20x24 Pt prints, do you use rod or brush and why? :confused: Thanks for replies.

Like yourself, I have managed decent 11x14s with a coating rod. However, I subsequently found out that I could do better with a magic brush. While mucking about with digital negative calibration, I soon found out how inconsistent rod coating is and how consistent (and more even) coating with a magic brush can be. I'd recommend that you "accidently" drop your coating rods on a hard floor, buy some magic brushes and you will never look back...

I have used a rod on prints as large as 16x24. But, I far prefer the Magic Brush at all print sizes. Get yourself a 4-incher and you'll be fine for the ULF sizes.

Thank you gentlemen. Now, where can I get said Richeson Magic Brush? I phoned my local art emporiums (Toronto) and they have Richeson but no magic...:confused:
