This one day workshop for those who want to learn how to mat and frame your own photographs in order to complete the process. Matting and framing of your photographs are relatively easy to learn and give a sense of "completion" to prints. Students will learn both how different components of framing will work together and the skills and techniques for doing a proper job.

In this workshop you will learn how to make a 11x14x1 lipped clamshell portfolio box. These portfolios are made to archival standards, are one of a kind, and ideal for that special presentation of your work.

A two day workshop with demonstrations and "hands on" for understanding the use of light to enhance shape and texture in your subject matter. The workshop will cover different types of lighting using both large and portable strobes, tungsten light and also fill light with daylight. Lighting ratios will be discussed and examples will be shown for understanding of how lighting may enchance your subject. Light meters will be used to measure the amount of light hitting your subject and calculate lighting ratios. Both commercial and portrait application will be referenced.

This weekend workshop is dedicated to experiencing the making of a carbon print. The Carbon Process was developed in the 1860's and is recognized for it's wonderful tonal range and exquisite details in low values. The carbon print is a direct transfer process where the initial image is transferred to a final support paper. The workshop will cover, making the carbon tissue, sensitizing the tissue, making the print and transferring the image.
Creating a Photographer's Artist Book (http://www.projectbasho.org/workshops/2008fall/bookmaking.html) Sat&Sun, Dec 13 & 14
In this workshop photographers will learn how to use their photographs and other photo-based media to create compelling visual narratives in the form of hand-bound, limited-edition artist books. During the workshop, five basic book structures will be covered: One Page Fold Book, Pamphlet Sewing, Accordion, Concertina, and Japanese Stab Binding. In learning these structures, students will understand the fundamental techniques necessary to create their own artist books.
