I'm looking at a Scanview Scanmate 5000 and it apparently works well but the drums are etched to some extent.

Are they available? I have one poster from last year that says he might have an extra one. I have not followed up on that yet. Can they be buffed up, maybe filled to get to a good enough state? Maybe pour in some "Crystal Sheen" and spin it good? ;)

Hi PenGun,

Depending on where you live... there are companies that may re-furbish the drums for your scanner. Try the following:

In Canada:

http://prazio.com/

In the US:

http://www.aztek.com/

Good luck

Cheers

ScanMate has been gone awhile. Perhaps a decade now. What you are looking for then would be used drums. A used drum will perhaps cost you less than refurbishing a damaged drum you already have.

There are a few companies that refurbish drums; Prazio in Canada does this kind of work. I think SDS still does in Europe. It takes specialized equipment and specialized handling. Drums have to be optically clear, distortion free, and extremely well balanced all at the same time. Not easy, nor cheap.

Thanks. I'll check Prazio tomorrow. I will also keep an eye on possible used ones. Thanks again.
