A few weeks ago, I asked forum members if it was possible to mount a barrel 35" Red Dot Artar into a Copal 3 shutter. It turns out that it was and I just today got the finished result back from KHB Photografix. I posted a couple of quick photos as a final post near the end of the original thread:

but have a much better quality photo to show you below:

So, it can be done and the result is not an overwhelmingly huge lens. There are more comments and specs in my post in the thread cited above. Thanks all!

It's a standard 140mm (~5.5") SInar board.

Love the f360 aperture scale. What is the max aperture necked down to? I think I see 19.8? What camera with 44 inch bellows do you use this beastie on? Also curious if Copal ever spec'd how much weight the #3 can mechanically tolerate.

Don't think that that hasn't occurred to me! Well, my wife says it hasn't...
I have a mini 12x20 ordered (7x11) but this lens is for the Chamonix 14x17 which I'm getting any second now...:)

How's the weather in Calgary?

You see well Jim; it IS f/19.8. This lens is for a reversible 14x17 Chamonix I've got coming but if need be I can get a 12x20/16x20 etc. :D
As far as weight tolerance goes, this lens including shutter and lens board weighs 1710 g and the 550 XXL weighs 2460 g so I would guess that the Copal can tolerate at least 2500 g and my little 35"er is no problem. Its heft is like a 360 Plasmat and it has a much smaller footprint on the board than I expected so I'm happy. There is a legendary beast (which no one has actually seen?) - a Fuji 300 SW which I'm sure would be even heavier and was also marketed in a Copal 3 unless I'm wrong which is not only possible but possibly likely...:)
