ONWARD '09 Juried Photography Competition by Project Basho

We are pleased to announce ONWARD '09, 2nd annual juried photography competition (http://onward.projectbasho.org). This year, we are inviting Peter Barberie, Curator of Photograph at Philadelphia Museum of Art. Deadline is November 14. Last year's competition (http://www.projectbasho.org/gallery/#ONWARD) was very well received. We had close to 300 entrants nationally and internationally who submitted over 1200 images. Andrea Modica last year's juror, selected 59 photographs (http://www.projectbasho.org/gallery/onward08/thumnails.html) and they were featured at our gallery in the months of January and February this year.

We have created a blog (http://onward.projectbasho.org/blog/) to give updates and any news about the competition. We will look forward to your submission this year.

Thank you again for your participation in ONWARD '09.

This year's ONWARD (http://onward.projectbasho.org/) was another success followed by our first competition (http://www.projectbasho.org/gallery/onward08/) which was only a year ago. The competition attracted 413 photographers nationally and internationally who submitted over 1600 photographs.

Peter Barberie (http://www.projectbasho.org/gallery/onward08/), Curator of Photographs at Philadelphia Museum of Art, has carefully selected 73 photographs by 69 emerging photographers. The names of photographers are listed on our website (http://onward.projectbasho.org/blog). The selected photographs represent a good segment of contemporary photographic work in approach, subject matter, and processes.

These photographs will be showcased in the ONWARD '09 exhibition at the Project Basho Gallery (http://www.projectbasho.org/gallery/) during the months of January and February 2009. The official opening will be held on January 10th from 2 to 5 pm. Award winners and honorable mentions will be announced at the opening by Tsuyoshi Ito, the Program Director.

We look forward to seeing the participants at the opening in January '09.
