Hey,

I searched previous posts and couldn't find anything, but would anyone recommend slide film for portraits/strobes? Most of my work is environmental portraits. Either 100 or 400 is fine. Just a film that has nice skin tones and works well with flashes. I previously used Portra 160NC with MF and loved it! but Wondering if theres anything similar or better for slide 4x5? i know its personal opinion but I'd just like to hear some recommendations.

Thanks everyone.:D

I like Fuji Astia 100F for skin tones. It is very even and low saturation, with low to medium contrast. I have a few examples in my portfolio, including a couple with combination of flash and ambient, like this two light set-up (http://www.gordonmoat.com/life_21.html).

I have also used E100VS for lifestyle shots. The trick is more that you can easily decrease saturation in post processing, while the opposite can sometimes create more issues. However, Kodak E100VS is much higher contrast, and can be too much saturation for some skin tones. Fuji Astia 100F is a much safer and more conservative choice that can be flattering to nearly everyone.

Ciao!

Astia is great for skin tones. This is the previous version of Astia 100 (8x10"), which was slightly cooler in general than the current Astia 100F (but that might be a batch variation issue)--

Astia 100F is a good choice, also add Kodak E100G to your list.

I like the older Kodak EPP 100 for portraits, which can still be found from the auctions site.
