I purchased a used Omega D-3 and am trying to get it in shape to print again. One of my purchases was a Micromega critical focuser. The mirror has a few cleaning scratches and the loupe has no scratches but could use a good cleaning. I set it on a sheet of paper on the easel and turn on the enlarger light. Looking through the focuser I see the two rectangles and can focus then where they both appear sharp. But all I can see is a ball of light. I was expecting to see the negative grain and all. Is my loupe defective or am I?

Thanks

Joe

Try lining it up directly underneath the lens; slowly move the position of your eye - you many not be looking into it from the correct angle. Your eye may need to be right on top of it, without obstructing the image being projected from the lens.
