I want to get a wet plate holder that fits a 'modern' Deardorff that isn't made from a plastic holder, and doesn't involve searching 'bay for half a century. Any suggestions?

You can adapt a modern one following this:

or have one (adaptor back) made from:
http://www.starcameracompany.com/index2.htm
or

Kodak Graflex 8x10 Plate holders work wonderfully. They are dry plate holders so you have to be a little more conscientious about cleaning the holder after every shot, but it's what I have been using to great effect.

I'll look into the Kodak ones. Do they by chance look like these? I found them on that auction site, but I really don't want to have to go through the trouble of signing up for that nonsense.

I'm going to check to see if anyone is willing to part with them down in for sale:

No, they are double-sided, wooden, dry plate holders that look just like "regular" wooden 8x10 holders but say: Kodak Plate Holder 8x10 U.S. Pat.2056144 on the 10" length on one side and Made in U.S.A. by Graflex.Inc For Eastman Kodak Co.

I picked mine up from Merg Ross here on the LF Forum.
