I was looking at the linos, badergraphic, and BHphotvideo websites and it looks the 480 mm Apo-Sironar-N is no longer available. Was this focal length discontinued?

Yes, it is discontinued. Very sharp, Large (112mm filter) and heavy (5lb.) Recommended if you shoot near your car or in a studio setting and use a camera that will accommodate it.

Yes, many years ago. Schneider still offers a 480 in the Apo-Symmar L line, though it's very expensive now.

A similar lens that is still available new would be the Fujinon CM-W 450mm
A derivative of the plasmat type, and unique in that there is air spacing between all six lens elements. More air, less glass, so lighter than comparable Apo-Sironars and Apo-Symmars! :)

Igor's Camera Exchange has one listed for sale.
