So, what to y'all carry your 8x10 kodak 2Ds in for around the car and for short walks? I'm surveying my options.

My Eastman #2 7x11 fits pretty neatly into a Tenba CC17 car case. The 8x10 might fit in the next smaller model, the CC15. But check the dimensions first. It's just a simple case, but well made and it won't break the bank.

I bought this $14 case just to protect the camera around the house, but it has proven to be excellent for my short hikes from the car and I don't see the need to replace it or upgrade. The light weight of the case and camera are key.

I hate to sound like a snob, but the value of the case should probably reflect the value of the camera. I wouldn't put a $5000 custom camera in an Igloo Cooler -- I'd pop to have AWB or Tenba make me a custom fitted job. But then again, I wouldn't go out and spend $200 on a case for a $200 camera either. Go to Target with your camera in the shopping cart and try a few cooler bags and ice chests on for size....

That's along the lines of what I was thinking. Perhaps I'll wait until I get to my Dad's place next. There's an army surplus store in Ogden to rival all others. They must have something that will work, and chances are that it won't be more than $20.

I use a Mars 85 Backpack that I bought at REI. It zips open so I can place the camera in the pack in position.

I didn't want to have one thing for short walks and another for hikes so I just used the f64 8x10 backpack for everything with my 2D. Why would you want to carry a 2D, plus holders, lenses, etc. by hand even for a short distance?

Would this work?

I think it would work great. I've been eyeing that thread googling for a surplus store already.

My came with a case made of vulcanite (?). Looks like original equipment. Holds the camera and the extension rail and the darkcloth. More of a storage case or piece of luggage. For field use, I'd carry it on the tripod on my shoulder. If it was very far, I'd carry a smaller camera.

I haul mine around in a Lowe Trekker. Not sure which model but I can fit the camera, extenstion track, dark cloth and light meter. Tripod fits on the outside of the pack and film holders and lens(es) are carried in a seperate bag.

I haul mine around in a f64 BPX. And I use the removable bags to carry 4x5 film holders.
