I would like to see if the Wista Graflok back to accept roll film holders would fit on my Nagaoka.

Does anyone have one and could take a few measurements for me before I buy one mail order?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What measurements would you like? We have all of the Wista roll backs in stock so which back? The one with the plate or without the plate on the outside of the back?

Dear Bob,

Thank you for the quick reply,

I have a Nagaoka and a Wista 6x9 Graflock roll back. From the pictures I have seen, The Wista camera back that is Graflok compatable may fit my camera,
(Wista, Nagaoka, Osaka, etc, the camera backs all look close to identical in pictures anyway).

The idea is that I want to keep the camera, hopefully with a new Wista back mounted, one lens and the 6x9 roll back in the trunk for the next two or three months as a huge old factory along the historic Lachine canal is slated for demolition!

So the measures needed are the overall of the wista back and the area that locks "in" to the camera body.
ie: the opening on my camera is 6 1/8 inches square. The depth of the back that reaches into the camera body is about 1/16 of an inch and the overall plate size of the back is 6 3/4 square, with the thickness of the potion that get locked into place being 1/4 inch.

Does your camera have a Graflok back or a Graphic back? If Graflok then the back will fit once you remove the ground glass panel. It will be held in place by the sliding Graflok locks.

If you have a Graphic back then it will not fit and you will need a slip-in style roll back like the Linhof Rapid Rollex (not Super Rollex).

If you have a Graphic back on your camera that is designed to open very wide like the Wista camera backs then The springs on a Wista DX camera are 101.96mm long and the ground glass opens 50mm wide. The width of the opening is standard on all modern 4x5 cameras.

A Wista Graflok back is 45.90mm high at the highest point. The plate that slides under the Graflok locking slides is 6.24mm thick. The width is the same as all 4x5 film holders and Graflok roll back.

I think in my haste this morning I expressed myself poorly,
I am hoping a Wista owner/user/dealer could measure the camera back so that I explore wether it will fit on my camera allowing me to use a roll back, which my fold up camera will not not allow other than a sinar zoom style.
They appear identical in pictures...but in real time, can it fit? Then I would retie my entire back and use the Wista for this project.

Dear Ian,

Thank you very much for taking the time to measure your back.
while the backs look identical, and 2 out of three measurements are,
the overall size of my camera back is larger by 1/2 cm. I will need to find another solution.

best regards,

Allen
