Does anyone here use Profile Mechanic Scanner? It's reasonably priced, but I can't find any reviews of the product. Anyone care to comment on the quaity of the scanner profiles it generates? Has anyone tried it with HCT targets? Are the HCT targets better than other targets for profiling a Nikon CS 9000?

Google immediately reveals that Profile Mechanic is just a software. It is not a scanner. It can be used to profile scanners. There are a number of resources for you to explore on Google, including a users discussioin forum about the software. Studying the questions in the forum would be useful to get a sense about "who" is trying to use it, with what kind of success, and upon what equipment it is being used. My guess is that it is an introductory level of profiling software and will be better than just stumbling along. Really useful SW is not cheap. Painting-by-numbers is quick, cheap, and simple compared to color managed printing with considerable expense and a steep learning curve in spite of what the advertising, pretty pictures, and superficial "reviews" would have you believe.

I realize that Profile Mechanic is software. That's why I asked about the quality of profiles that Profile Mechanic produces (note that I mentioned the scanner that I do own). And, yes, I know how to use google. I did that first. I've also found that price is not always the best indicator of quality, particularly when one considers open source.
