Ok, it's a very good lens but it's only $750 at Badger. It must be that blue lenswrap. :)

LOL, I'm so glad someone else noticed that!

I was planning on bidding on that item, but then it shot up to $470 about an hour before it ended... There happened to be another auction for a NEWER version of the lens (120277601074), with a BIN for $600, so I bought it. Right after that, the first item started to go through the roof (and past retail).

Who are these people?? eBay is crazy.

Last year I saw someone win a used Nikkor 10.5 mm DX fisheye. They bid more than the lens cost new from B&H. Crazy indeed.

The buyer is from France. Shows what a weakening US Dollar can do!

well spotted Sheldon. Price new here in France.
979.00 EUR = 1,536.64 USD . It went for 1.148,00 USD , so providing that shipping is not too expensive, and the buyer doesn't get hit for the 22% import duties it's just about worth it.

That's crazy. Why not order from Badger and pay the cost to ship to the EU?

"That's crazy. Why not order from Badger and pay the cost to ship to the EU?"

because of the 22% VAT tax, the fuel surcharge on S&H would be the same either way.

I'm still not quite seeing it...
$750 + 22% + $50 shipping = $965, or about €614

Right?

Third high bid was $570. We saw a collision of two bidders who put in high bids, probably in the belief that no one else would do the same. Accidents happen.

The import duty on a lens brought into the EU is 6.7% and then TVA in France is 19.6%. Without checking S&H exactly, I make it about €650 landed and delivered. Why on earth would you buy at an inflated price in France when, even with the strong Euro, you can save around 30+% by buying from somewhere like Badger?
