Hi
I bought an old Arca 8x10 and it came with a home made mod that is quite handy so I thought I'd share.
The sliding geared thingy is sawn in half. So apart from making it a lot easier to transport I also get an extra bit of bellows draw.

Cheers
Joakim

Yep, that's the way Arca Swiss designed the rails, no sawing or home modifications required! It's a really great feature.

Enjoy your camera!

Also, it's "Cogito Ergo Sum" - "I think, therefore I am", or in a later work by Descartes "I think, I exist". That is, unless your quotation relates to Banyan :)

Ash, It was meant as a joke. Like I'm here because I exist. Who's Banyan?
Sheldon. This is not an original thing. The cut is a bit uneven. Also my 4x5 Arca of the same vintage does not have it.

Hmmm. Yours must be a modified version of a long rail.

I know that the current generation Arca's come stock with a split rail. I imagine that even in the early generation cameras they've offered rails of differing lengths and if you had the right parts you could assemble whatever rail configuration you desired.

Of course if you don't have the right parts, a hacksaw is just as good!

I got one of these 8x10s in new condition and the rail split was the first thing I did...EC
