View Full Version : Need some details on 305mm G-Claron versions

I know there is a similar thread running on the 355, but I just purchased a 305 G-Claron that does NOT fit directly into a Copal 1 shutter, so I assume there are older/different versions of this desirable lens. The rear threads appear to be 45mm and the front is about 50mm. I'd prefer to set this into a modern shutter (with faster speeds), but could just simply mount it on a board and go with the flow.

Anyone have experience with this version of the 305mm G-Claron?

thanks for any help

This one IS the Dagor type and it will fit into a Compur #2. The 240 420 convertible Symmar used that shutter. Beware, a 180 Xenar also uses a Compur 2 but the throat is too big.

Mine shares a shutter with a 165 Angulon.

Another shutter that would 'share' is the 150mm f2.8 Xenotar if you're so lucky ;)

Well, thanks (I think) I may have stepped in a pile of pooh, cuz the consensus seems that Compur #2 shutters lack much standardization. Since the Symmar 240/420 fits the same shutter, would it be safe to assume this lens/shutter (http://tinyurl.com/4hlzq2) would be a viable option... assuming I could buy this and sell my 240 G-Claron, etc.

I found this thread (http://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/archive/index.php/t-16859.html) in the archives and my head began to hurt. :(

Yes, that one would work. When in Copal 3 they have adapter bushings for the larger standard Copal size. You'd have to use the same bushings on the 305. In the other thread I would dis-agree with the gent who said nothing matched nothing. Schneider was really good about lens spacing on all of the different lenses mentioned. When you find Dagor's and Rodenstock Ronar's and who knows what else from other companies in Compur 2's they are all different.

thanks Jim, I at least have a current working plan "A"... now how do I get the current lens out of the enlarging collar (http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/12928517/aview/claron_d.jpg)? :o

Front and back will both twist out of that pretty little collar. Make yourself some "grips" out of an old auto inner tube.
