The next time someone berates photography, they may very well have some excellent reasons....

Wow, some of those are in a realm of creepiness that until now I was totally unfamiliar of.

Very cute and nostalgic (of course, most from before I was born!). My favorite is #27- would make a nice poster to hang on the wall.

Man, look at all that velour!

OK so the 70's was a bad time for fashion.
Why blame the photog? He's just doing his job documenting the atrocity.

I'm diggin' the Frivolous Five.

Steve Warren was the only one I recognized..

Perhaps the other extreme... :)

When you see some of the "creations" on that web site, maybe that's why we don't get no respect.

It's not just bad photography, it's horrible design too. The really scary thing though is that i can see some gallery framing that stuff and it selling really well to collectors as serious art.

Three disturbing observations:

1. Judging from the obscurity of the 50 worst album covers, we can hardly be sure that there aren't 100 or so real howlers out there that are even worse than these.

2. Someone, somewhere, at some point, said "you know, I think that that's the look that we've been searching for", before any of this stuff hit the album rack.

3. Now that evil digital is here in full force, these sorts of full mooners can produce their wares on a scale previously unheard of by mankind and in record time to boot.

LOL. Will photography ever git it's respeck. Prolly not, but I keep hacking away like the guys that made those album covers. Hopefully, I'm not headed for the all time goober list, but if I am, it is what it is. I ain't gonna stop.

.

How true. Years ago I aquired a largish record collection by accident (really only wanted the shelf of books that were sold with the lot), and a good number of them are good contenders for the title of worst cover (really, really zoned out stuff).

A few of the 50 worst covers don't quite belong into the list either. The Electric Amish cover is obviously a spoof of a Beatles cover (and a pretty good one I would say); and the "Have Harp, Can't Travel" cover is actually almost brilliant IMO. That being said, a few of the covers are indeed downright scary - that "Chicken Coup" guy is from another planet, "All my friends are dead" I wonder why, the "singing postman" should probably keep his day job, and I truly hope that this leprechaun in "Julies 16th Birthday" is only her student guidance counselor.

They would. I'm surprised I haven't seen it in Half price books yet.

The organist with no hands was kind of intriguing. I wonder if she could play by ear?

That's nothing. If you want to put your eyes back in just so you can really tear your eyes out (and maybe your whole head off), then click here:

But be afraid, very afraid. Not an album cover, but absolutely a good reason why photography will never get any respect.
If the moderators don't ban me for life for this link, it's likely because they plan on shooting me in person.

uhmmm ... the album cover stuff was funny, this stuff however belongs into the lounge at most or better yet deserves a meeting with Mr. Delete Key. The 1/10 of a second it took me to close the browser window was already too long (most of the stuff there is a mix between deranged celebrity gossip and x-rated garbage of trailer park trash level).

Haha I loved it but it did hit close to home, they're almost my size....

If you liked that and "Two Girls One Cup" then do a Google image search for "goatse."

Wait. Don't. Do. It.
