Schneider 'Beta' lens designation

I've seen a few Schneider lenses with a Beta designation, for example the Beta Symmar 300/5.6 MC.

Does anyone know what the significance is of this designation?

I finally found out what this relates to after having corresponded with a very helpful engineer at Schneider Kreuznach. Beta means scale, this lens was manufactured on special order along with a 210mm focal length lens in 1978 and was optimised for higher magnification - so essentially it's a macro optimised Symmar S MC.
