As I know Winter in Leipzig was a camera dealer at the end of the 19th century.

The first Aplanat was constructed 1866 by August Steinheil in Munich, but later made by other lensmakers like Busch in Rathenow, Meyer in Görlitz and others. The angle of view is 40°, when used with an angle of view of 60°, the astigmatism makes strange distortions at the outer regions sometimes seen on older pictures.

Chr. Fr. Winter Sohn were primarily instrument makers, from what I've been able to find out. They, like many others at the time, had a "side line" in cameras and lenses. The lenses were most likely bought from another lens maker in the area, and then relabeled to sell with their cameras.

Mine is this set: http://www.bruraholo.no/Cameras/Winter/Winter.html
