I decided to start a separate thread from the Chamonix shoot out thread. Gustavo has posted an idea for something to be done in the San Fernando Valley area. This seems to be more of a formal workshop with some structure to it. I think it would be a good idea and you can count me in. If people in the Valley have contacts for locations you can pm either myself or Gustavo. I will be glad to help on this. We will have to decide a location and a date so we will let everyone know.

Please post the date(s). I am interested, but not likely this month or next as I will need to attend the foto3 with a visitor from China.

Hugo, I understand. We also have to be aware of graduations from school etc. I will work with Gustavo to get this set up.

Hi Jim,

I'm assuming that what you are proposing here is separate from the lighting workshop that Gustavo is trying to set up.

I'm most likely interested in this also - it all depends on the timing due to the travel distance I have to come from and what my travels for work might be. As you know from our discussions in the previous thread, you have to be careful on the number of people. Two weeks ago we had 8 photographers and 3 models and it seemed to work pretty well for a morning's session. However, that was partially due to the very large shaded patio area we had to work under out of the bright sun. Even then, it was somewhat hectic in switching from model to model. If there were more photographers or fewer models, there is going to be a lot of standing around waiting for models to be available. I think probably a good scenario would be 4 or 5 photographers and two models. Remember that more people means we need more space to set up shooting spots.

Dan, I meant to say that Gustavo's idea is a good one. Something more structured in that area. I guess a more formal type of shoot. I just wanted to start a separate thread based on the idea that Gustavo had. I do not have the experience yet in portrait/nude work to set this up but I am willing to help and be a part of the learning experience.

Gustavo,

Could you explain whether or not this is the same meeting/class/workshop you were arranging in the 2cd Chamonix Shoot Thread?

From john's intro, I thought he was referring to a separate shoot, not the "classroom" above.

So could you explain what you are offering?

How many places are open?

What lens board?

Gustavo,

This sounds so exciting especially as you are set up with continuous lighting.

I am very interested in joining and may have a lady photographer who wants to come too!

How many places are there altogether and how many are still available?

What is the cost.

Is this a group shoot where we share the expenses as before or is this a commercial workshop that you are putting on?

Gustavo, thank you for the great instruction, our beautiful and very co-operative model and a very beneficial learning experience. I can't wait to develop my negatives. Got side tracked with some other business and I'll get to negative development tomorrow and I will see what I get. Had a great time.

Well, here are the three that I did. The first image of Rosie was my first attempt at anything like this. Gustavo has given me some cropping ideas on this one and the second image. My second image of her standing is one I'm happy with. The contrast is a bit high but I can manage that in printing. The third image is a bit unusual. The neg is thin and maybe messed up but I like the tones and the look of the image. I printed these on some old Azo in Ansco 130. I had one image that did not work. The neg has some development problems and I do not like the pose. I'm happy with my results for my first time ever with this type of work. Gustavo gave some good instruction and I had a blast! Let me know what you think.

Thanks for the comments. The last image has "the look" I'm after. I like the background tonality and I really like the tone on the models skin.

In case anyone is Interested I am planing to do the workshop again !!

Sorry it's taken me this long to get back to this thread. I've been too busy developing film and printing negs. Gustavo did a great job working with us (Jim and myself) at the workshop and the model (Rosie) was great to work with as well. The last three images in the link that Gustavo posted were from the workshop. Of the three, the high key image is by far the best and prints beautifully in Platinum/Palladium.

For those of you who are considering taking Gustavo's workshop, I highly recommend it.
