We have 26, 100 sheet boxes of out-of-date T-Max 100 that has been keep in a freezer since it was delivered. It was purchased for a late 1990s project to have backup negatives of our portrait collection. We purchased Pro Copy Film (which we used up) for the black and white portraits and the T-Max for color portraits. We are debating whether to try and mount an effort to use it up within the next year or so, or see if could be sold. Is there some place that deals in out-of-date film?

5 boxes (09/1990)
21 boxes (12/1990)

Size?

This would be very desirable for alt-process printers (particularly if it's 5x7" or larger), because it would be the old version of TMX that didn't have the UV mask. I've gotten very nice negs from old TMX in plain old D-76 for albumen.

how much are you looking to get per box/as a group?

FYI, a friend gave me a case of 8x10 TMX that expired in 1996. He kept it frozen, and I have, too. It seems perfectly good to me - developed in PC-TEA with a bit of KBr added for traditional silver prints, or Pyrocat for albumen. As David says, it still works with UV.

I would use it. How much do you want for a couple boxes?

The question is, how was it stored between 1990, when it expired, and the late 1990s, when it appears that you purchased it.

Given how much of it you have, it wouldn't be hard to do a few test sheets.

I would also consider buying a few (2/3) boxes of 4X5. I recently found a couple of partial boxes of TMAX, one 100, the other 400. Dated 1989 and 1990, respectively. So I ran some tests, and they seem to be quite usable, the 100 in particular has almost no base fog. These have been stored in cool room conditions (my basement), but dry, most of their life. Maybe I was just lucky???

We purchased the film on a grant from a local pro-photo store (Kadet), so I know that it was fresh and stored properly when we got.

The person making the final call on cost will be back on Monday (but between me and you is $15.00 a box asking to much ?).

$15 a box seems like a fair price to me. I'd take a few at that price.

You can count me in for a couple of boxes as well. Maybe even 3.

I also would take 2 boxes, if you intend to sell it off. Please let us know.

I am very sorry for any confusion caused by my original posting, I should have had someone read it before I posted it. I could not understand some of the questions asked until I reread it myself.

We purchased the film not in the late 1990s, but in the late 1980s. It was fresh and had been stored properly when we got it, and has been in a freezer ever since. This explains why it has an expiration date of 1990.

5 boxes (09/1990)
21 boxes (12/1990)

Sorry for the confusion, I looked at the expiration dates and got 1990 stuck in my head.

I will be directly email those who have express interest in the film tomorrow or Thursday.
