Well, thanks to Jim Galli's pushing me and my own curiosity I shot the first pictures in my new 11x14 Walnut camera. I have two paper negs and one is wide open and the other is at F-16. The wide open shot is at about F-7.7 I think. The lens is a Voigtlander Euroscop #4 rear glass and a +1 diopter for the front glass. It gives me about a 16" lens. The paper negs are Arista EDU Ultra ( Foma). I had the 11x14 at a distance of 32" from the Calla with a subject to background distance of 32" and my bellows out to 34". The size of this Calla is 5". I used a #8 filter and the exposure for the F-7.7 shot was 1:30 seconds. The second shot @ F-16 was done at 3:30 seconds. The background was a nice brown cloth but I didn't have it adjusted right that is why the white shows. My black background came into play. Great to know that my 11x14 works!!

Sweet! I've gotta find the right diopter for my #5 Eury. I sold the #4 to Will Whitaker in a weak (translated broke) moment.

Jim, so what do you think? I'm kinda leaning toward the F-16. It sure does have a nice creamy look. I shot one at F-32 but the camera wasn't tightened down and everything moved when I took the dark slide out. It messed up the focus. I have some 8x10's done with this lens and I'll post them as soon as I can get them printed. Can't wait to try a portrait or two with this $60.00 Euroscop Hybrid!

Looks awful good. Soft focus is an acquired taste. I think this lens has a lot of potential wide open too. jg

You know Jim, I agree. I've been going back and forth between the two and I can't make up my mind. I'm going to take her out and shoot some film tomorrow am. I have some FP-4 and I'm going to use the Voigtlander and the Ilex 21 1/4" lens that I have. I only loaded three sheets so it will be two with the Voigtlander and one with the Ilex. I'll post my results.

Donald, thanks. I can't wait to try this lens at these F-stops at some distance and the right composition to see what I get. These are after all very close up. Glad you like them.

Dreamy, what's the Kodak Commerical 14" look like? Get a tube, mount them in it and take some more photos. It's going to be fantastic to say the least.

I'm back-and-forth between the two. Sad we feel the need to choose; they're both quite beautiful. There's a lot of potential in that lens...

Mark, thanks you are right. I do love the look of both. Yes this lens has some potential.
Andrew, I need to get something to put the Ektar in and see what it gives me wide open. Thanks.

Jim F, they both are beautiful and worth exploring fully. The first has all the pictorial qualities one hopes for in a soft focus lens, soft but with some sharpness mixed in. The second has the creaminess everyone looks for in the older more popular "read expensive" heliars and cookes.
Great idea Jim G! I tried this with a petzval but it didn't turn out nearly as nice as this. Keep them coming.

Brian, try it with the cemented end of the Petzval, ie. put the front in the back, and the diopter in the front.

Brian, thanks. I just got out of the darkroom. I developed two sheets of FP4+ 11x14. Did them both in Pyrocat-HD. Same basic composition. One with the Voigtlander @ F-64 and one with the Ilex 21 1/4" process lens @ F-64. I will print them later and post the results. The negs are drying. It will be interesting to see the "look" of both of these lenses.

Jim G, thanks for the tip but I've already tried that combo, actually several different diopters too. For some reason it just comes out mushy and not creamy if you know what I mean. I got the idea from Mark Sawyer and his IWSWGON lens but unfortunately mine turned out rather blah. The petzval is a McIntosh Q10 and looks pretty good as made but the diopter+ front element covers 11x14 at portrait distance. I had hopes :(

Jim F, I'm looking forward to the test prints.

Brian, I just put the prints on the drying screens. The first test I did on the 8x10 with the Voigtlander Hybrid. I made two stops one at F-32 and one at F-64. I forgot to shoot one wide open! I did shoot at F-16 and the results I think are stunning. I have what I think is one of the finest images I've done to date. I printed them on some Azo from 1976. I'll post them tomorrow in a separate thread. This has become my all time favorite lens for 8x10 and 11x14.
