Is it possible to use a single Copal 3 shutter for following lenses?

Sironar 210mm macro
Sironar-N 240mm

For reducing load it might be handy to pack once less shutter.

Thanks,
Joe

You would need two aperture scales, and there may be spacers that go with each set of lens cells.

the aperature scales appear to be identical

The scales are not identical. They are off by 1/3 stop. If the shutter was set-up for the 210 you need to open up when using the 240. On a Copal, you just have to keep your brain properly engaged to make the adjustment. If the lens is set-up for the 240, reverse what I said above. Since you plan on using a Copal, make sure that the scale is correct for at least one of the lenses, since Copal scales are not cheap, or have S. K. Grimes make you a two-scale replacement.

Another option is to sell the 210 macro and buy a 180 Apo Macro Sironar or a 180 Makro Symmar. Those lenses are in #1 shutters. The total size and weight may be the same, and you don't run the very real risk of screwing-up expensive lenses by switching cells in the field. The 210 Macro Sironars seem to bring riduculously high prices on eBay. I'm not sure that they're actually better than the newer lenses and the sale would likely more than pay for the more recent lens.

Remember too, as mentioned in another reply, not to lose any of the shims. Rodenstock and Schneider take the time and trouble to space these lenses optimally at the factory. If you want to forego that extra step and the benefits it brings, you might as well have bought a Nikkor and saved yourself some money.

The 240mm is in a #3 shutter. What size shutter is the 210mm in?

Bob, haven't you had your morning cup of coffee yet? You sold the 210mm Macro Sironar. You know that it's in a #3 shutter.

Sorry, I don't drink coffee and haven't handled a 210 macro since it was discontinued several years ago. So I honestly don't remember. The 210 S is in a 1 as is the 180 Apo Macro so it was possible that it was in a 1 also.
