What's a good company to do this for a decent price? I need slides for a grant application, but all I have is digital and many of the original images have been sold so I can't go back and snap a roll of slide film.
Why do juries still require slides anyway?

Check with Alliedphotocolor.com in St. Louis. They do everything else, so possibly can help with this as well. Wonderful people and fast turnaround...also very reasonable on price.

I will second Gamma Tech, they did a great job on some jury slides for me. Very inexpensive and super quick service. He will make slides or negs up to 4x5.

Yes Robert, I have worked with GammaTech for years, they use the same local E-6 lab that I use and have always done quality work for me.

you can also just view the picture on your monitor and snap a picture of your monitor on slide film.

Now there is a quality suggestion.

Seriously, my experience with photo grant applications, which is considerable from both sides, suggests that a thoroughly professionally executed application implies that the applicant is a professional and capable of utilizing the grant monies to perform the project at a quality level and in a timely manner. This is especially true if the applicant does not have an established reputation.

I do a lot of digital photos for artists who also need slides to apply for grants and shows. I always use iprintfromhome.com Service is perfect and fast and the prices are great. Anything they get into their system by 5:00 AM gets shipped that day. Good luck.

I was going to suggest taking a picture of the little LCD screen on the Digital Camera

Now that would certainly secure a grant. You guys are just full of fun ideas.

Seriously, thanks for the help. I think I've got enough to go with. I have until March 17, but I'll get it done this week.

Bruce, I have used slides.com about 10 times and they have always been very fast and I have been happy with the slides. For the service they offer their prices seem very reasonable.

I've also been quite happy with slides.com - I use them for show jurying slides. Prices are reasonable and colors seem acurate.

Cheers!

I went with slides.com. It was one of the easiest transactions I've ever had, and the quality was superb. Thanks everyone.

...Why do juries still require slides anyway?

Speaking as a painter....

In the bad old days, you knew you had to have clunky old slides to send out to galleries and jurys. It was simple and it was expensive.

Now galleries and juries want:
1. Slides, or
2 CD with jpgs, or
3 CD with tiffs, or
4 CD with PDFs, or
5 CD with Power Point presentation, or
6 CD with myserious Mac formatting, or
7 URL to your web site, or
8 Email with attached jpgs, or
9 Prints of your images, or
10. Various combinations of the above

An artist or photographer now needs to maintain sets of slides, various CDs, a website, prints...

The cost and trouble of sending my work out has been increased by all these savings and conveniences. Now it's complicated and more expensive.

I'd be happy if we'd all just stayed with slides.
