8x10 Fresnel/GG combo ?

I have a tachinara 8x10, and the original screeen/fresnel were obviously cleaned a bit too enthusiastically, so now it is too 'transparent' and I see double images.

I replaced the lot with a nice eBay ground glass (after waiting about 8 months for my satinsnow, and giving up) but I do miss the illumination of the fresnel. Adorama has the 'original' Tachi replacement screen in their catalogue, but eventualy cancelled my order telling me they'll never get it (but then, still have the item available for sale..)

Anyone knows of a source for a nice 8x10 GG/fresnel combo ?

Also check this thread (http://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/showthread.php?t=29272&highlight=gvb). My Maxwell is outstanding, and I would order another Maxwell for my 7x17 if he made one that large. Maxwell does make screens up to 8x10, so that would be my suggestion to you.

If you want to consider a "conventional" non-enhanced ground glass, look at GVB (http://www.sheetfilm.be/) in Belgium. The GVB is a "conventional" gg and not a fresnel, but the screen has received some excellent feedback, and I plan to order one for my 7x17.

you could always add a Fresnel to my GG. It greatly enhances the effect of the Lumigrid.
I read somewhere that Tracy Storer is offering fresnels for UFL.

$158 + $28 postage (+ duty + 17.5% VAT) I think I'll try to $10 'reading' fresnel first.

I couldn't find a webshop for maxwell, nor a list of prices.. Anyone found their homepage ?

I already have a pretty good regular ground glass, otherwise I'd have bought one from our Belgian cousin... I had found their website in my quest already :-)

Geert mentioned Tracey Storer & Fresnels, somewhere on I think this forum you can find he buys them from Edmunds Optical in the US, they do have a UK branch & website (http://www.edmundoptics.com/UK/).

I have been in touch with them but didn't have time to investigate further on my last visit to the UK. They would probably have something better than a reading fresnel.

Midwest Photo still lists the Tachihara ground glass and overlay on their web site. You might want to give them a call.

I used to buy from Edmund Optics, but their offerings on large fresnels changed a few years ago. (very few if any large fresnels in "interesting" focal lengths) I have a new supplier.

I just tried a cheapo (£3.50) 8x10 reading fresnel, and it does make a hell of a difference ! At about 20cm, I can see the whole of the frame, instead of having to do the 'head dance'. I think a longer focale on the fresnel would be better for framing; but it's already a huge improvement!
Of course it's not a superbly finished piece of plastic molding, I'll have to find something better...
