This one is from Zion as well.... I was standing next to Blaze when I took it so I'm sure he has something similar.

Here are some...
Hugo,
Your photos are wonderful. I have a question regarding your panoramic composition: did you crop it from a full negative, use a 6x12/6x17 etc., back or use a panoramic camera?
I ask because I am interested into getting into the pano-view.
Thanks,
Darr

Darr,
The pano-view is a contact print without any crop from a 8x20 negative. It was taken 14 months ago at Zion National Park with a 14" Trigor lens. 100 film and 30 second exposure at f/45.
Thanks.

Very nice. That center one looks as if the tree is embedded in the canyon wall.

I refocused, but rather hurriedly and without a loupe... just my poor eyes. I'm working to shoot again today with less "fuzz", probably working within the limits of the 0-5 on the dial.

Tried the tree again, straight, +5, +10 softness and a G-Claron thrown in for a good (contrasty and sharp) comparison.
The difference with the Velo II lens outside in the landscape versus shooting a still life with some control over the lighting presents new visual problems to solve. That was a little unexpected. I'll have to try this with the 12 inch and review to see if there are further differences in these lenses' performance.
Left, G-Claron at f9, Center, Velostigmat II at f8, Right, cropped triptych is Velo with softness levels 0, +5, +10
Brian K, your vision is utterly inspirational.

A few years ago, I turned part of a horse tack room into a darkroom, and when I got it ready I dug out a venerable Rolleicord that I had picked up along the way. Not having had a darkroom for some 25 years at that point, I had some nagging doubt about still being able to "see" photographs before taking them; these two pictures are from that first roll of Plus-X, developed in HC-110 "by the book". Not exactly earthshaking photography, but what a relief...

Thanks Hugo- late March snow, mainly. I was coming down from the west side of Lake Crescent in the Olympic National Park and there was a late afternoon flurry behind me, together with some sun breaking through. Lots of late snowstorms this year- in fact we had snow on the north loop of 101 as late as last Monday. The narcissus in my yard still hasn't bloomed!
Forgot to mention I've been toying with really dilute FX-37, like 1:9 for 11 and up SBRs. So far, I like it very much. Good compensation without too much loss of local contrast. And great speed as well.

I know that it is a taboo to advertise here so I will not state here whose software program (6.5) I happened to have downloaded a while back. I had downloaded it as a trail on my old computer but having trouble getting the scanner software to install, I happen on the old file & decided to try it on this B&W. I was impressed with it but I still have a few concerns about it. First off, it installed using 4800 series instead of 4890 which seemed not to configure for the tma. Secondly, as you might have noted the scan seems reversed? I had left the negative in the tma from the previous scan but I rechecked & emulsion side is correct . . .

Will, I dont think I've used it yet stopped down, I like the look of it so much. I think that compound is my favorite shutter too, beast that it be. Thanks again for parting with it. My xenar collection is slowly getting there...I've been toying with a 180 xenar for macros on 5x12, in a compur 2 that Carol Flutot did a lovely job fixing for me after it came all the way from Australia rattling around in a shoe box!

My first (and so far the only one) picture made with petzval lens. Slight front tilt, aperture about 11 - black cardboard, exposure time - as fast as I could take off and put back the lens cap. Foma 200 developed in F76+, 1+14, underdeveloped. This combination gives somewhat low contrast, so significant contrast boost (overall and locally) was applied - probably a little bit too much.
This photograph may not have any big artistic value, but it shows what effect one may expect from an old magic lantern lens.

Here's my first-ever LF exposure, with the Osaka 4x5 and 150mm Sironar-N I purchased from Blueberrydesk. I believe the film is some expired Velvia 50 that Jim at Midwest was kind enough to spot me when I bought some things from him. Metered with my DSLR. I don't have a scanner, so I taped the tranparency (in a sleeve!) to my living room window and shot it (handheld) with my DSLR. I corrected the colors to roughly match the transparency.
Obviously I had some DOF problems with the foreground, and I can't say that I think this is one of the better shots I've taken in my life, but I wanted to finally post something here.
