Can anyone advise on what sort of cable release to use with this type of Linhof board. You cant screw a cable release into the fitting it seems more like a sort of push fit connection? One more question. The lens is a 180/305 convertible. Do you remove the front or back element to convert to 305mm? Cheers for any help folks...

This looks like a set up for a press-type camera where you would release the shutter by simply pushing down on the white button. That's my guess, anyway. The little silver block of metal over which is sits looks like a standard cable release socket, so perhaps if there is a way of removing the push button assembly, you could convert it. Generally, you remove the front cell to achieve the alternate focal length. On older designs, it is sometimes desirable to use a light yellow filter when using only one cell to help control some of the chromatic aberrations that come with less optical correction.

It's a cable release quick mount. You need a cable release with a short tappered thread. Push it in the funnel and it clamps the cable release. To remove push the white piece and the cable release is released. There was also another kind of this attachement with a red button aviable.

As Robert has mentioned, the older Symmars can be used without the front cell. For this there is a second f-stop scale with green numbers starting at f/12.

The best fit is the Linhof release with a tapered tip and no threads. It just pushes in. Or you can buy a tapered cone that will fit over the threads of most threaded cable releases. Or you can use any Linhof cable release.
