I believe they are to aid in keeping equipment from going off the bridge in the event of a derailment.

Oh, good for you Ethan! I sometimes fantasize about playing hookey from work and going shooting while the world works.
I lugged my gear into work today because I caught sight of a scene from our office I wanted to take, and then after work I went and shot some frames. My back is achy now. I also got a new box of 50 sheets of T-Max 100 today, and I'm dying to get out and work with it.
Thanks for looking at my site, and the kind words.
One day we will have to try to get together to shoot, and compare notes of places to photograph.

Nice one, Corran, distortions and all. But mainly, once again you've timed the clouds wonderfully, and have kept them delicate and poetic.
Thanks Drew. A summer shower was rolling through over New Orleans; after waiting for a bit the clouds opened up and graced us with about 5 minutes of sun.

Looks nice rorye. Seems like there was some cloud cover in the sky, is that a fair guess? To my eye it seems like the sunlight was coming from behind the camera position, and a bit filtered/diffused, creating the pleasing rendering.

Hi Chassis, Yes, absolutely, a bit of cloud in the sky, diffusing from behind the camera, with a 30 sec exposure. It's hard for me to look at this pixelated version, if you're interested there's a crisp version on my website at https://www.contact49.com/2018/1/28/petaluma-bridge

Bont Newydd at Abergwygrgyn [Gwynedd, North Wales] a single barrel-vault bridge at the confluence of Afon Rheadr Fawr and Afon Anafon provides a roadway across the river. The date of construction is unknown, but its existence was marked on the Ordnance Survey map of 1822. The bridge provided a safe crossing for drovers leading animals on a Drovers road up the valley. Large stones in the river under the bridge mark the site of an earlier ford.
Abergwygrgyn (also known as Aber) is the coastal crossing point for the ancient drovers and later Roman road that led across the Lafan Sands to Anglesey.

Nice. Bridge looks rickity!
Very bouncy. esearing and I walked across, and my steps got in "sync" with the flex, making it start bouncing sympathetically quite a lot! Kinda fun. I saw some younger kids grabbing the railing and shaking it later .

It's just one of many of Chicago's many moveable bridges. They are amazing feats of 19th and early 20th century engineering.

That one will not move again and it's too big to remove, when you get up close it is frightening. I have friends who tagged it and made love long ago.

OK, it's from a found 5x7 glass plate, photographer and camera unknown, but it shows what went into building some of the bridges now photographed. This one is dated 1901 in the negative and is the Viaur railroad bridge under construction. 383 feet high and spanning 721 feet and wouldn't OSHA have had fun there! Check out the guy riding the girder up. PS How do you get the image to come up full size??

Thank you Martin,
Yes I have the impressing to have more tonality then my usual Ilford Delta. No need for example a Yellow filter for contrast.
Last week I have create some quick filters in Lightroom for film stock, and I must say the look of Ortho is for me mutch better dan Delta.

And why would they cover a bridge?
And why would they cover a bridge?
In areas with hard winters it protects the bridge’s decking/road surface and makes it last longer.

Austin, that's marvelous! We feel the mass and weight papably. (It bears a certain resemblance to a couple of watercolors by Eakins, though they had a different purpose.) The stillness, counterpointed by the ducks, and with the two diagonal corners so thoughtfully matched with triangles of earth and bridge respectively. You're at your best in this one.

Sadly the shot is spoiled a little by the far support being out of focus. I'm not sure how I managed this as I'm sure I checked it on the GG. I seem to have this issue in a let of my shots. I suspect I'm making some sort of rookie mistake either in terms of not locking all the movements down properly (I wish my Chamonix had some sort of hard reset to zero everything), or possibly in the callibration and my use of my loupe. It's quite frustrating!

That is a very nice shot. Regarding the softness of the distant tower, I looked at the full size Flickr page and noticed that there are a couple of other places that are inexplicably soft. From looking at the foreground and the land on the other side of the bridge, you obviously used a small aperture for great depth of field. It's sharp from side to side and top to bottom, except near that far tower, as if the neg has a bubble that affected the sharpness either in shooting or scanning. There is a similar "bubble" at the bottom, slightly right of center. There is no reason for that to be blurry. I don't think you made a mistake. I think something else is at play.

I noticed that too. I can see it going from the foreground through the river up to that distant tower. The grain is homogenously sharp across the whole frame, so it must have been some issue when taking the shot. Something wrong with lens(or filter) maybe?

Thanks for this. I think you're right - I can't see any way that the blurry areas can be caused by camera movements. I think it might be my yellow filter. I've just looked through my shots taken with this camera and lens and all the images where this issue occurs are ones where I used my yellow filter. No sign of out of focus areas in the others (except for stuff that is clearly a result of tilt or swing).

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I think you're right. I don't think it's my lens as I have pictures where everything is fine. As with my reply above, I'm erring towards it being the yellow filter - all the shots I have with this problem have been taken while using that filter.
I'll shoot my next few frames without any filters and see how they turn out. It'll be good to remove the cause of the problem, if disappointing that I had to find out the hard way.

Actually a transparency (E100), was scanned on a Creo IQSmart3, some others are scanned on a drum scanner. The Creo does a great job on the film. As you know each scanner will impart its own characteristics on the film, but that just goes with the territory.
