A short while ago I posted this thread:

I left the Anniversary Speed Graphic on the shelf for a while and did nothing about it. I finally got around to sanding down the unsightly wood-filler flush with the body, and spent nearly £8 on two bottles of aerosol (matte black, and lacquer - so I have a satin/semi-gloss after lacquering).

This afternoon I sprayed the body and it's looking not toooo bad currently.

There we go, there's the camera without any colour. Here's the first coat of matte drying:

As you can see, the back needs another coat.


The bloody spraypaint came out too thick during spraying so in places the finish doesn't look too good, but hey at least it's one step closer to being usable again.

And here's the camera re-assembled pre-lacquer.

I quite like the matte effect. I need to decide whether to lacquer after all. I really should but the flat black is pretty nice (in reality).

As you can see, the paint doesn't really like the front metal. On the top of the camera I'm holding the release button in place with a bit of magic tape. I'll replace that with black insulating tape until I can get sheet metal and screw that over the top to make a permanent release button plate thing.

I got a bit of paint on the focusing screen, so gave it a scrub - it's surprisingly bright now it's had a clean!

mmm not the best solution Ash.

I have a pre-Anniversary Speed Graphic, its a factory modified Wide Angle model, and like yours its naked but I french polished mine, I've also rebuilt the back.

The bellows etc have been restored and the spirit levels repainted since I took the photo and the camera awaits completion next time I'm in the UK.

There was something missing when the camera was bare wood, the metal just didn't look right against the wood, and the holes on the side were unsightly. I'm fairly satisfied with the camera in black.

Yes the shutters missing, I have another similar to yours and filled the area where the shutter used to be and then recovered the whole camera with leatherette.

A naked wood Speed Graphic with brass plates across where the shutter mechanism should be sold for $585 last week on ebay :D

ash: if you decide to do another camera, may I suggest, the following Mahogney wood and oak wood and others require a wood filler the last time I used a wood filler
was making a mahogney book case , the one thats the best is the one when your finished and you start to stain it looks like there is nothing there, It does take time and practice to do this type of work ,but its worth It: Even if your only going to paint it: Nice job over all:

I'll second that. Done right the repair is invisible. Even done horribly wrong the filed holes look better than empty holes.

On the other hand, it's just a light tight box with a lens on one end and film on the other. ;)
