Anybody have any nice shots with this? I can figure about what the field of view would look like but I'd still like to see some photos.

Yes, great lens.

Go to this page of my web site: http://www.walterpcalahan.com/Cheers/Carroll%20County.html

Look at image 'Carroll County 15'. It was made with the Nikkor 120 on a Canham 8x10.

Not sure if this is helpful as you are asking about 8X10 but if you are interested in examples with a 4X5 at all try John Sexton's Listen to the Trees. There are some very nice (and sharp) images taken with the Nikon 120 mm lens. In fact, I believe the images taken with the 120 and the 150 look the sharpest to me in the entire book, and those using the 210 just behind. One of the photos was taken with a 5X7 camera and the 120,I believe. Check out the technical image page at the end of this wonderful collection of images.

Wlater C - nice use of the ultrawide perspective.

Thanks Ed. Always appreciate a kind word!

I'm a sucker for those old auto repair / filling station buildings with the front awnings.

The extreme focal lengths (120mm and 1200mm) don't get nearly the workout that my Nikkor 240mm and Cooke XVa get.

Many thanks. I'm considering an intermediate to fit between my 90 and 210 for 4x5 and figure ultrawide for 8x10 would be a very nice bonus.

Nice work, indeed, Paul. I have a 120/14 Berthiot Perigraphe that I don't use often enough, so these shots provide some inspiration. Here's a Perigraphe shot that I've posted before--

Thanks for the inspiration and good work Walter, Paul and David.
B&H still have them in stock and i took the plunge and ordered one. When they are gone they are gone and it will be to late to regret.

I just acquired the 120mm SW from a forum member here and did an illumination test this morning on a evenly lit wall using my 4x10. Using a Soligar spot meter the reading through the ground glass at center the reading was 11 and at the corners the reading was 7.7 or so, a little more then 3 stops of falloff.

B&H shows a Heliopan 77mm 3X center filter as an accessory and the cost is something like $473. I like the angle of view and I most likely will have to break down and get a center filter.

One thing for sure, it's easy to spend a ridiculous amount of money on photography.

I can't believe my luck. I checked out a center filter at BH for the 120mm earlier today and the 77mm 3x was $475 special order. I went on Ebay about an hour ago and did a search on Heliopan and guess what shows up; a 77mm .45ND center filter and 105mm matching polarizer. I won the bid and with shipping the total was $174.

Joe, That is disapointing. I thought all the good deals on the auction site was posted here before the auction came to an end.
Congrats on the good deal though  :o  :D

Any pics with your "new" 120 SW's on 8x10? Here's one from me... It's a gold toned POP print. Sorry about the underexposed print bottom left. Not sure I lined up my UV sun lamp properly

FWIW, I took this a few years ago with the 120 SW Nikkor on an 8x10 Hobo.

Just curious why you would want a center filter on a lens that is at 0 movements for 8X10?

Great deal on the auction. Sorry it came down to two LF members.

This is awesome. It is butter smooth and extremely sharp. I love the "effect" from this wide lens on the 8X10 sheet.

Out of curiousity, what is this "effect" like when you are viewing the contact print vs. say, a 16X20 or 24X30 enlargement of the shot? Some can argue that having too wide a shot as a contact "retracts" the viewer which is the whole point of having a contact print made (draw the viewer in).

Cheers!

I am new in this forum.
Thanks Jan, I am receiving my new 120SW tomorrow from B&H.
And will proceed to order the Fotoman 810PS.
Very excited about it after seeing the pix posted here.

I also just broke down this morning and purchased one from B&H. It is a deal at $800, new. Now that they aren't making them anymore, get 'em while you can! I will be using mine for 5x7 architectural work, but since I am working with an 8x10 with reduction backs, big negatives will be exposed with my new lens.

It's still not as a good deal as the nikkor 120mm AM ED macro lens which BH sold for $299 last year. The original price of this macro lens was $1080, that's 72% discount. The nikkor 120mm SW discount is 28% from the original price. I can always hope that the discount gets bigger overtime if no one is buying it ;)

Whats the coverage like on 8x10 then ? Does it allow some movement ?

it will cover 8x10, ut if you want movement, you need to find the SW 150.

> It's still not as a good deal as the nikkor 120mm AM ED macro lens

As I discovered, this lens is only a bargain if you use it. Found that 120mm was too close to the subject for me for macro, and sold it after it sat on the shelf unused for a year. It was a good investment, however.:-)

If you shoot 4x5, the Nikon 120mm SW is is the perfect lens. 120mm is as wide as you can get without it looking wide, you never run out of movements, and the lens design reduces fall off such that it is not very noticable in 4x5. If it were just a little smaller. (Or if the 110mm SS was 120mm.)

I'll gladly take 312mm's of IC for $500 more anyday of the week;) What format does that Macro cover again?:)

No movements, but a ton of wide wide:):):). This one is an all time keeper aside from the 110XL. 120 covers better than the 110, but the 110 is a shorter focal length, more compact, and frankly, a gorgeous piece of artillery. For the money, at $800 or if you find one for $600 used, the 120/8 is a steal since the 110XL usually fetches 1K-1.2K (used).
