Hey guys,
I just acquired a Wollensak Raptar series IA. Its f6.8 with focal lengths of 6 1/2, 10, and 12 3/4 inches. Does anyone have experience or an estimated guess if this guy would cover 5x7 without vignetting?
Thanks!

Athanasius80,

Probably not. Arthur Cox "Optics" states that it has a field covered of 60 degrees; Double Protars 75 degrees, it is not designed for maximum circle of coverage, though it is a good lens. I have it in 8 1/4-12 3/4-15 1/2". The 8 1/4" is 210mm. which will cover 5 x 7" but not with much movement. I used to have the smallest, 4 3/4" that I used with a 120 roll film adapter..

5x5=25+7x7=49, total is 74, square root of 74 is 8.6".

It will cover 4 x 5": 16 + 25 = 41, square root of 41 is 6.4"; I do not know that it will or will not cover movements.

It should cover 9 x 12cm. (3 1/2 x 4 3/4") very well.

Sorry.

What shutter is it in?

Its in a Rapax with flash. I was considering using it with my 5x7 tomorrow for architecture. Think I'll use the dedicated 5x7 lens instead. Thanks guys!

Should you want to part with it, please tell me about condition and is it coated as my 8 1/4 is and 4 3/4" was? I would use it on 9 x 12cm which is smaller than 4 x 5". Bernie

Have you actually tried the lens you bought? Do that then see if it covers, you'll be amazed at how those things can cover.

If you want to do some really tall rise moves you should probably get an angulon type lens to be safe.
