Hi,
I just bought a great 5x7 Kodak 2D. This has every option I've read about; the sliding tripod block, a crown 4 tripod, the rail extention. I'm a novice but can figure out these things.

BUT - there are two flat black boards with dual routed holes that I cannot fathom.

One is 7 X 2 5/8
Other is 5 3/8 X 3 1/2

Both have 7/8 diameter holes partly drilled through, spaced 2 inches apart.

What are these items for?

thank you,

Those are used in the camera back to split the image - you would get 2 7x25/8 on a sheet of 5x7 film - place the splitter in the camera back, insert the film holder after you compose the image, remove darkslide, shoot, replace darkslide remove film holder or not, slide the spliter up (if on bottom to start with), recompose, insert film holder, etc. Gives you 2 images on one sheet of film. The partial holes are aid in moving the splitter up or down (or from left to right). Quite a few folks do this with 8x10 in order to expose 2 4x10 images.

OK, I think I get it. Thanks for the help explaining.
