Does anyone know the history of the Fujinon 240/9 A lens and if the ones with the writing on the front, just prior to the 5000 series, are multi-coated? If so, or if not, how do they perform vs. the EBC coated ones?

Have a look at Kerry Thalmann's Fujinon page:

Easy to tell, writing or not. If you see deep purple and green reflections coming back at you it is EBC multi-coated. If you see straw reflections it is single coated.

There's definitely some coatings applied, but maybe it is just a single one. See photos...

According to this site, they say there was a single and a coated version, though I have read somewhere that there was a single, multi-coated (not EBC) and then the EBC.

Looks like the earlier single coated version to me. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. I prefer the performance from those lenses myself.

Jim,

Is there a reason why you prefer the performance of the earlier ones over the later ones?

How much lens flare are they prone to?

Is there any difference in the image circle between the old and new?

Thanks Jim for your help!
