There's a DIY subculture called Ikea hacking...taking stuff from Ikea and using it for other purposes.

Here's a nice looking LF pinhole made from a plant holder. There's a link to the photog's gallery at the bottom.

I like the guitar, too: http://ikeahacker.blogspot.com/2007/02/play-it-again-zach.html

Yeah, there was just an article on it in the New York Times.

You can make a pinhole camera out of any enclosed, light-tight space. A room, a 35mm camera cannister...Why the heck would the NY Times find this newsworthy?

The Times probably found it noteworthy not because someone made a pinhole camera, but because they wanted to report on the social aspects of Ikea hacks. I thought it might be of general interest.

I think it's really cool. The guitar is pretty special, too. The purists are sure giving him a bad time over that one, though. I commend the Times on reporting on something other than war and politics.

I like the do it your self coffin made from Ikea bookcases- I don't think it's in the NYT article- should be in their catalogue sooner or later.

The times was more interested in the "IKEA DIY subculture" than the photography aspect (although there was one picture of a guy with a homemade box camera).
