My supplier says they will be available around October in the U.S.

The 11880 is now available in the US I believe. Test prints done on that machine should give you a good idea of the 9880 if you are in a hurry.

The 11880 is very diffferent beast than the 9880. It has a different print head all together. The 9880 will not be available until this Fall.

Joseph Holmes (http://www.josephholmes.com/news-epson11880.html) has a hands-on evaluation of the 11880 that should be of interest

I'm wondering if the 4880 has the same print head technology as the 3800, except that it would allow the use of rolls? Has anyone heard?

I ask, because I've heard the 3800 works well for digital negatives. If the 4880 is the same technology, then it could print on Pictorico roll stock.

No. The 3800 has a little finer picular (sp) for the nozzels. About the digital negative issue, I can't comment since I don't play with that.
