I have two little f/7.7 Unos, a 4.75" and an unknown focal length, probably around 140 mm. Also an Aldis lens engraved "Uno Anastigmat F 4.5 4 Inch Focus."

The first two are to the Uno formula, a cemented doublet (biconvex, biconcave) in front of the diaphragm and a singlet (planoconvex or perhaps flat on both sides). The third is a normal triplet.

The VM says "Uno is a very nice contrasty sharp lens and fully usable today if used with care and was a real bargain." I agree that the f/7.7s are very contrasty and fully usable. But in comparison with my other lenses, the 4.75", which I've used a bit, is just a little soft across the field at all apertures.

Aldis claimed 80 degrees coverage.

There are no links to A Lens Collector's Vade Mecum. It is a sort of a book published on CD-ROM. You'll have to buy a copy, sorry.
