Dear All,

Have any of you ever use this lens? May I ask your input regarding this lens, e.g. sharpness, smoothness, or anything.

I am interested, because its a small lenses and might fit into a backpack easily.

Regards,
Utomo

Last year, I bought a 100mm Sironar S to replace a 105mm Nikkor for use with 6x9 roll film - If it hadn't been a special order item, I would have returned it, since the results were indistinguishable from f/5.6 to f/16 between the two lenses, although the (used) Nikkor cost less than half as much. The sharpest lens I have used on this format is a 100mm Planar, but good used ones are difficult to locate at a reaonable price, the image circle is limiting, and the weight is considerably greater than the Sironar.

Thank you David,

I forgot to mention that the 100mm Sironar S is to be used with 4x5.
Have you used it on 4x5 format?

Thank you

It does not cover 4x5. It is for smaller formats.

Thank you Bob for the clarification.
I was thinking of using it with Wista VX as a wide lense.

Thank you
Utomo

Hi Utomo,
I have a fuji CM-W 105mm that does cover 4x5 for sale if you like. PM me if interested.

While the Fuji is the best of the smallish 100-105mm lenses for coverage it still doesn't allow very much movement on 4x5. Have you looked at the spreadsheets available from the LF home page that give coverage for modern lenses on different formats?

Hi Mattg,

You are right, should have looked at the spreadsheet.

Cheers,
Utomo

It's not an APO Sironar-S, but if you want a small 100mm lens for backpacking with 4x5 you might consider the 100mm Wide Field Ektar. These pop up on eBay fairly often, you should be able to pick up a good one for decent money. Mine was under US$200, plus another US$50 for a shutter CLA.
