I thought the series stopped at 1200mm. Well, I was clearly wrong.

Look here. (http://cgi.ebay.it/Rodenstock-Apo-Ronar-16-1800mm-Extreme-Telelens-Huge_W0QQitemZ270143657681QQihZ017QQcategoryZ30076QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting)

P.S. I have no relationship with the seller ... too bad :-)

Nope. It covered a 60 x 80 inch film at 1:1.

Hmmm... 1800mm @ 1:1; that means 3600mm, or fourteen feet, of bellows extension.
Ultra-large format, indeed.

Gads...That 150 Apo-Ronar looks like something you'd put on a Minox compared to that monster!

What kind of camera was a lens like this made for?

A process camera like a Brown or a Robertson.
