I have the opportunity to buy a macro Sironar N 210mm and was wondering if anyone has a link or an electonic document with the technical specs of this lens. My first internet research did not bring any precise results.

Thanks!

I have one and it is a wonderful lens. Quite a spendy lens.

Thank you!

Could you indicate the size of the filters that would suit that lens?

If you are looking for filter size 67mm is correct. If you are looking for instructions the one that is important is to follow the pictogram on the front and rear lens group for proper orientation. The front group and rear group are used for ratios from 1:3 to lifesize. From lifesize to 3:1 the front and rear have to be switched.

Image circle at 1:3 is 350mm and at 1:1 is 525mm and at 3:1 it is 1050mm.

That means that at 1:1 with an 11 x 14" negative there is 53mm of rise and 44mm of shift. At 3:1 there is 354mm of rise and 328mm of shift.

These figures are at f22.

Wasn't the rule of the thumb something along the lines of always positioning the elements so that the front cell is always pointing to the direction of greatest distance between the film, the lens and the subject?

The lenses are to be used at the chosen reproduction ratios as marked directly on the lens groups. If at 1:1 it makes no difference which group is where. At all other ratios follow the plainly marked diagrams.

On the current Apo Macro Sironar 120 and 180mm and the Apo Macro Digital Sironar 120mm you don't change the elements around and they are corrected from 5:1 to 1:5. On the 210 and 300 Macro Sironars it is important that you do follow the diagrams.

Do be very careful removing and replacing the elements in the shutter as you can damage the threads.

Thank you gentlemen, that definitely helped!

I take it from your answers that the threads of both lens elements are made for 67mm filters, right?

The lens should be on its way to me anyway and IŽll soon have the chance to check how it works!

Cheers,

I know this is an old post, but I want to express my appreciation for Bob's post, which explains the "convertible" nature of the lens.

I recently performed a test of several of my lenses, and found that the 210 Macro Sironar N was - at infinity - the sharpest of my lenses. I was baffled by that until I came across this thread.

Thank you !!
