I recently purchased the lens for very little as an impulse, but know very little about it. Somewhere in the back of my mind I thought it was a softer portrait lens, but on closer inspection, it seems like just another general purpose lens. Does anyone know anything noteworthy about it? Thank you!

hi mark

i have a seminat too .. i have fooled around with it on and off .
haven't taken any portraits or still lives with it. it does give a nice smooth out of focus area.

what kind of shutter is yours in ?
mine is in some weird 1920s dial thingy.

strangely enough, i have seen seminats that looked nothing like the one i have, and
at one point thought there were more than one lens ilex badged "seminat" ...

Here's a photo of mine, John. It's uncoated and in a nice Ilex No. 3 Universal shutter. Perhaps just another lens for the 4x5's for the high school kids to play with...

hi mark

the front cell sticks off of your shutter a bit i am guessing (maybe an inch?) ...
hmmm, looks like mine is like yours, exept for the shutter ..
