Anyone a member of any photo associations? What are the benefits to you personally for your associations? Are they worth joining?
I've gotten a few solicitations to join some local associations (not clubs) that give workshops and have shows and one has a gallery. They are local and well spoken of, but I wonder what the direct benefits are besides supporting an organization that does good in the photographic community. I have read that as a member they do portfolio reviews and member shows and cheap fees for some workshops etc. The workshops are open to the public as is the gallery, and getting a good portfolio review usually requires knowing someone... so as a member are the shows, reviews and people really more accessible in your experience?
