Sunday of Memorial Day weekend I got to meet Hugo Zhang and Domenico Foschi. What a privilege that is.

We had a leisurely lunch at a sidewalk cafe with perfect So. Cal. weather, then we went to a park in Whittier to play with cameras.

Hugo had a new Chamonix 7X17 with holder for us to play touchee feelee with. The finish on that maple is like my 1920's Grand piano. Gorgeous and the movements are just silky. I would say it is elegant in it's simplicity. Once a few hit our shores and are seen, I doubt the factory will be able to keep up. It struck me as true value.

The high point of the day for me though was seeing Domenico Foschi's work first hand. With appropriate apologies to Domenico, I feel a true kindred spirit in his work. It is simply spectacular and the printing has challenged me. Rocked my world so to speak.

Finally it was time to relax with the cameras. Hugo sporting a 'dorff 810 with a 5X7 back and just about any legendary lens you've been drooling over. Domenico has a 2D just like yours truly except he has a speed graphic curtain shutter that lives just behind the lens board and gives him better times than my Packard does.

I used the 8X10 2D with an Eidoscop for the portraits at f5.

Wonderful portraits Jim! They tease out what must be genuine and authentic in these two. And Hugo's portrait of yourself is equally immediate and revealing. (I'd buy a used car or a coveted lens from you in a New York minute!) Fine work!
