Just one of those days I guess, did some shooting this morning, worked fine. This evening, my Gossen Ascor II flash meter decided to not read anything, with 1600ws into a medium softbox (should be around f64 +-) I can finish shooting based on experience, plus fudge factor on the over side (b+w film, a little hot won't kill me). So, anybody have a reccommendation for a meter that will read f90+ @asa200? (the only reason I kept the Ascor around, as I often shoot 2x+ macros with the 8x10) My multipro just blinks at me, as I'm sure an UltraPro would also....so anybody have any suggestions?

After a quick browse of B+H, the Broncolor FCM 2 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/6719-REG/Broncolor_161014_FCM_2_Meter.html) stands out with a max f-stop of 180.9.

True, btw Brian, got any children I can sell? waaay out of my budget, by more than a few hundred dollars. The most I think I can get away with is probably $250, used is preferred, ugly even better (esp. if it's cheap) as I'm returning to college after a year off (in 1981...never take a year off, the decades just fly by) and the $$$ are going to be tight.

The specs for the Sekonic 358 only talk about ASA 100. F90. You could ask on the MAC user forum how it handles ASA 200 at that range. $215 brand new from B&H.

The Broncolor will display f/180 +9/10 but it will only measure to f/90 +9/10 at ISO 100 - ie about f/90 at ISO 200 - according to the specs.

The Sekonic L-758 will read to f/161 at ISO 100 according to the specs - slightly brighter than the FCM-2.

Have you thought about putting a piece of ND gel over or behind the receptor disc/dome so that you could use a meter like the 358?

Best,
Helen

Perhaps it didn't quit, it simply retired. Grin.

Good luck. I use a Sekonic.

Maybe I'm still asleep -)

But isn't F/90 at ASA 200 only F/64 at ASA 100?

Er, yes. Oops. It's that Sunday morning thing.

I was hoping to offer something wonderful from my camera bag but apparently not. My LunaPro F only makes it to f/64&2/3 at ISO200...

I have an L-358. It can only be set to an aperture of f1.0 to f90.0, though you can adjust exposure compensation 9.9 stops over or under. ISO settings go from 3 to 8000. So I don't know if that would fit into your needs, but it would meter strobes and strobe to ambient ratios. In the several years I have used this meter, it has been very reliable.

That's what I'm doing at the moment with my Gossen MultiPro, I just need to remember to adjust the EI accordingly.
