Hello, might seem like a silly question but can anybody tell me what Sinar DB lensboard/shutter is? What pros and cons. How does it work? Have my eyes on a lens that comes with a DB lensboard. By the way my camera is a Sinar F1.

I think the Sinar DB lensboard is a kinda barrel mount lens/board combination, designed to be used with a Sinar shutter in the camera. There may be some aperture automation involved. It seems that most lenses in Sinar DB mount go for much less than conventional leaf-shutter versions of the same lens.

Gene pretty much has it. When using the auto aperture shutter, inserting the film holder will automatically shut the lens and stop down. Given the prices of DB lenses lately - it might be quite worthwhile to invest in it. SUCKS for location work, though...! At least - if you have to break down your setups a lot.

As Dw says, the DB lensmount is meant to be used with the Sinar auto apurture shutter. The idea of this shutter is that you could set bt shutter speed and apeture from behind the camera -- a real plus if doing studio tabletop work where there are lights, reflecors etc. all around the setup. Ah esaid, insertinf a film holder shuts the lens.

The electronic version coupled to the Sinar meter probe system for automatic exposure control.

DB Lenses will not work without the auto aperture shutter.
