Is the new Lowepro Vertex 300 suitable for 4x5 field camera? It seems big enough, but it's not being advertised that way. I saw it in person at B&H, and it's bit lighter than the PhotoTrekker and a tiny bit more spacious. Any other insights out there?

The Vertex is a backpack, btw.

Rider,

I'm interested in this also. Did you get a chance to compare the two side by side? If so, what's the differences between them, other than what you've already mentioned.

I wish I had taken more time to examine them; I find shopping for backpacks really difficult because you can't tell whether you look the bag until you've used it for a day or two. I was hoping somebody might comment, but it is a relatively new bag so not many people have it.

One thing I noticed is that the Vertex is boxier than the Photo Trekker, and did not seem as nicely finished. Perhaps that is one way they got the weight down?

Because it is boxy, I imagine the tripod being carried a little too far from the body; but without trying it I don't know.

As a person who carries a small laptop for non-photography matters, I appreciate having a small pouch pouch for that. However, I want a really good support, and I want it to be not too difficult to take things in and out.

Thanks seawolf. Does anyone have experience with the Vertex itself?
