Paul, please be serious! Have you seen the AHEL? It is very simple to say the least! It is cheap! But that's about it. A crude and primitive enlarger, you can find cheap things on the second hand maket, you only need to be patient, have you checked http:// www. silverprint.co.uk ? they might have some second hand things, bargains are to be found on classified adverts or at labs. Keep searching, Good luck!

this is only about 8 years after the original posting!!!
i think you are being very unfair about the ahel. it's a compact enlarger which is a bit fragile looking but which actually does its job very effectively. they used to be sold in the uk by a very respectable outfit called teamwork who were professional large format specialists and who wouldn't have handled gear which wasn't up to doing the job. i bought my first ahel from them and used it professionally for several years.
i've got another one now while i sort out a power supply problem with a durst L1200 with a knackered transformer.
they are far better than the comments on the earlier postings suggest.

They had quite a good reputation. The other good cheap enlarger was a Line & Jones, made in Morecombe, UK.
Both were simple, but not primitive and extremely functional, and you prints would be no different from an enlarger costing ten times as much, if you used a decent lens.
