backs for 120/220 films in 5x7 cameras

Please tell me your experience on the use of backs (for 120 or 220
films) in 5x7 large format cameras. What formats can we have in these backs (6x6 cm, 6x7 cm 6x9 cm, 6x12 cm, 6x17cm)?

Also would like to knhow if there are zooms for formats from 4.5x6 cm
till 6x17cm?

If you have a 4x5 reducing back you can mount any rollfilm back aimed at 4x5 cameras. At least if you have a graflok on that 4x5.

I'm not sure how many 6x17 backs exist for 5x7 cameras. Off the top of my head two require 5x7 graflok backs.

As for 6x17 backs I a familiar with a couple from China that all look like the same design (maybe the same factory) and the Canham 6x17 back.

It seems a bit stupid when you think of it - to use a 6x17 back you have to put a 4x5" reducing back on the 5x7" camera, then add a 6x17 RF back which builds even more distance.

A straight slip-in 6x17 RF holder would allow the same use of WA lenses as when the camera is used with 5x7" film, and wouldn't lead to vignetting with very long lenses.

Maybe I should try butchering my 6x7 back, to see if I can add another 10cm to it? It would be nice to be able to shoot a 6x17 panorama with a 90mm lens...

Ted's already mentioned the Canham back. Badger has a 6x17 native 5x7 also. The problem is you need a 5x7 graflok back to fit either.

Cheaper then the 4x5 based model by a little bit. Can't tell how the film advance is handled. I don't see a ruby window.

That would be the modification to make, then: Get the 5x7-to-6x17 from Badger and then scrap the Graflock parts and try to rebuild it in a non-graflock version. I know graflock was popular on 4x5, but who uses a 5x7 graflock system? Seems awfully heavy for little convenience...

I think Canham does. From the pictures on the website seems Shen Hoa has added it to their cameras. Not sure who else. I can't imagine it adds much weight to a 5x7 back.

Ebony also makes a Graflok-style back. At least that is what my recently-delivered SV57E came with. It's excellent, and not significantly more weight than the older style back.

Just for the record, Keith Canham says you can put his rollfim 6x17 in a wood Canham, just put the gg protector on, and gently pry the back open. So no graflock needed for his 5x7
