I have a lens I would like to learn more about.

I have posted the links to pictures at the end of this post.
The inscription read:

Euryscop VI
NO 3A
NO41817
Voigtlander & John
Braunschweig

Any info would be helpful.

Thank you,
Greg Johnson

Euryscop, or Euryscope in English-speaking countries, was Voigtlander's trade name for a large family of lenses designed before the anastigmat period but continuing into the early 1900's. Some were Petzvals, others Rapid Rectilinears. Yours is probably the latter. It was called the "Rapid" Euryscop". The aperture was given as f7.75. The 3A was listed as 16" focal length and the maximum coverage as 11" X 14".

"Voigtlander & John" is a common misreading. The first letter of the second word is an "S". Sohn is German for son.

Thank you Ernest. The inscription "Voigtlander & Sohn" is in cursive, and is very flamboyant/detailed. I thought it read "John"

The serial number dates it to around 1892.
