Greetings,

When using an 110XL on 4x5, 5x7, or 8x10 formats... some people choose to use a center filter while others don't.

When, and what formats do you use your center filter on when shooting with this particular lens?

Secondly: Are there any significant differences between a Heliopan 67 mm Center filter and a 3b filter from Schneider (other than price? :))

Thank you in advance for any input/comments.

Cheers

i have a 3b filter, but never found the need to use it with my 110-XL when shooting 4x5. on larger formats, of course, there may be a need, but not on 4x5.

The Heliopans are at least as good as either the Schneiders or the Rodenstock, IMO. At least. As someone who is dependent on, and very critical of, center filters, I also feel the need to stress that you shouldn't be too concerned about the exact model. Illumination will vary with aperture and magnification FAR more to be concerned at all which model you choose. Some will compensate more accurately at different apertures, and different magnifications. It's just marketing hype. Trust me. Schneider came up with a specs for which filter to use with which lens to scare customers away from the other mfr's filters.

I can't give you technical details but I have a Heliopan 67mm Center filter that I use with my 58 SA, 75 Grandagon and 110 SSXL with good results .... that is on the very rare occassions that it gets used at all except with the 58.

I have the center-filter but never have found the need for it with either b/w or color tranparency with 4x5.

I only shoot b/w in 5x7, but if I shot 5x7 color transparency, or used large movements with b/w, I would use it.
