Just got a SCX. To get the tripod block or standards off the rail, you have to remove the end cap, which is secured with a knurled nut. I have the nut loose, but the end cap is not loose. Do I have to take the nut off? Does the end cap come loose, or do I have to pound it with something? Given that I have buggered a number of things in my life by just applying too much force, I want to make sure I am not missing something. I am also in the market for a two piece rail.

I just checked mine. You loosen the screw completely and then pull, rather hard, to get the cap off. Shouldn't need banging with anything just a hard pull.

Thanks! I will give it a good pull and see what happens.

Ed,

I have a Cambo and just a suggestion: you may wish to spray a little light silicone oil on the piece before you tighten it down again. I use this oil sparingly, but in many annoying locations and found it to be a big help. The operative word is sparingly as all oils tend to 'migrate' and no need to get it on the bellows or glass. Good luck.

For those trying this at home. The screw is tightening a jam plug in the back of the cap. You loosen it, but do not keep turning once it is loose. Then the simplest solution to getting the cap off is to just rack back the standard and use it to gently push off the cap.
